2 Esdras 15:1: “Behold, speak thou” [Esdras] “in the ears of my people” [Israel] “the words of prophecy, which I” [The Most High] “will put in thy” [Esdras’] “mouth, saith the Lord:”

2 Esdras 15:2: “And cause them” [My words] “to be written in paper: for they” [My words] “are faithful and true.”

The Seven Last Plagues of God

2 Esdras 15:5: “Behold, saith the Lord, I will bring plagues upon the world; the sword, famine, death, and destruction.” The Seven Last Plagues of God, see Revelation 15:1 and Revelation 16:1-21.

2 Esdras 15:6: “For wickedness hath exceedingly polluted the whole earth,” [See 2 Esdras 4:28-31] “and their hurtful works are fulfilled.” See 2 Esdras 4:35-37.

2 Esdras 15:7: “Therefore” [Because the works of wickedness are fulfilled] “saith the Lord,”

The Judgment of Egypt (Babylon) destory with Plagues/The Last Seven Plagues of God

2 Esdras 15:10: “Behold, my people” [The Elect] “is led as a flock to the slaughter:” [See Mathews 24:22] “I” [The Most High] “will not suffer them” [The Elect] “now to dwell in the land of Egypt:” The great city Babylon, which is spiritually called Egypt, see Revelation 11:8 and Revelation 18:10.

2 Esdras 15:11: “But I” [The Most High] “will bring them” [The Elect] “with a mighty hand and a stretched out arm, and smite Egypt” [Spiritually called Babylon, see Revelation 11:8] “with plagues, as before,” [The Last Seven Plagues of God, see Revelation 16:1-21] “and will destroy all the land thereof.” See Verses 40-44 and Revelation 18:2, 8-10.

The Beginning of Sorrow

2 Esdras 15:14: “Woe” [Destruction, wrath, and vengeance] “to the world and them that dwell therein!”

2 Esdras 15:15: “For the sword and their destruction” [The second coming of Christ, see Revelation 19:11-15, 2 Esdras 13:8-11, 25-28 and 2 Esdras 15:34-37] “draweth nigh” [Near] “and one people shall stand up and fight against another, and swords in their hands.” See 2 Esdras 13:29-32.

2 Esdras 15:16: “For there shall be sedition among men, and invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power.”

2 Esdras 15:17: “A man shall desire to go into a city, and shall not be able.”

2 Esdras 15:18: “For because of their pride” [See Ecclesiasticus 10:12] “the cities shall be troubled, the houses shall be destroyed, and men shall be afraid.”

2 Esdras 15:19: “A man shall have no pity upon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and spoil their goods, because of the lack of bread, and for great tribulation.” See 2 Esdras 16:14-19 and Revelation 16:1-14.

2 Esdras 15:20: “Behold, saith God, I will call together all the kings of the earth to reverence me, which are from the rising of the sun, from the south, from the east, and Libanus; to turn themselves one against another, and repay the things that they have done to them.” See Obadiah 15-16, Joel 3:2, 9-14 and 2 Esdras 15:29-33.

2 Esdras 15:21: “Like as they” [The nations] “do yet this day” [The time period of Esdras and Israel’s captivity under the Persian/Media Empire, see 2 Esdras 1:1-3] “unto my chosen,” [Israel, keep in mind that the Gentiles in Christ also received the promises given to Israel, see Message to reader: The Gentiles in Christ] “so will I” [The Most High] “do also, and recompense in their” [The nations] “bosom. 2 Esdras 15:22: “My right hand shall not spare the sinners, and my sword shall not cease over them that shed innocent blood upon the earth.” See 2 Esdras 15:40-45, 2 Esdras 16:8-13, 22-24 and Revelation 14:9-11.

Warning to the Rebellious/Sinners

2 Esdras 15:24: “Woe” [Destruction] “to them” [The Israelites, see verses 1-4] “that sin, and keep not my commandments! saith the Lord.”

2 Esdras 15:25: “I” [The Most High] “will not spare them:” [The Israelites that keep not the commandments of God] “go your way, ye children, from the power, defile not my sanctuary.”

2 Esdras 15:26: “For the Lord knoweth all them that sin against him, and therefore delivereth he them” [The sinners of Israel] “unto death and destruction.” See Deuteronomy 29:16-29.

2 Esdras 15:27: “For now are the plagues come upon the whole earth and ye” [The rebellious/sinners/wicked Israelites] “shall remain in them:” [The plagues] “for God shall not deliver you, because ye have sinned against him.”

The Horrible Vision

2 Esdras 15:28: “Behold an horrible vision, and the appearance thereof from the east:” See Matthew 24:27.

2 Esdras 15:29: “Where the nations of the dragons of Arabia shall come out with many chariots, and the multitude of them” [The nations of the dragons of Arabia] “shall be carried as the wind upon earth, that all they which hear them may fear and tremble.”

2 Esdras 15:30: “Also the Carmanians raging in wrath shall go forth as the wild boars of the wood, and with great power shall they” [The Carmainians] “come, and join battle with them,” [The nations of the dragons of Arabia] “and shall waste a portion of the land of the Assyrians.”

2 Esdras 15:31: “And then shall the dragons” [The nations of the dragons of Arabia] “have the upper hand, remembering their nature; and if they” [The nations of the dragons of Arabia] “shall turn themselves, conspiring together in great power to persecute them,” The Assyrians.

2 Esdras 15:32: “Then these” [The Assyrians and the nations of the dragons of Arabia] “shall be troubled, and keep silence through their power, and shall flee.”

2 Esdras 15:33: “And from the land of the Assyrians shall the enemy besiege them,” [The Assyrians and the nations of the dragons of Arabia] “and consume some of them, and in their host shall be fear and dread, and strife among their kings.”

2 Esdras 15:34: “Behold clouds from the east” [See Revelation 1:7] “and from the north unto the south, and they” [The clouds] “are very horrible to look upon, full of wrath and storm.” See verses 40-41.

2 Esdras 15:35: “They” [The clouds] “shall smite one upon another, and they” [The clouds] “shall smite down a great multitude of stars” [“The burning and fuel of fire,” the horrible star, see verses 40] “upon the earth,” [See Wisdom of Solomon 5:20-23, Psalms 18:7-14 and verses 40-44] “even their” [The cloud’s] “own star;” [See Psalms 18:12-13 and verse 40] “and blood shall be from the sword unto the belly,”

2 Esdras 15:36: “And dung of men unto the camel's hough.” See verses 22-23.

2 Esdras 15:37: “And there shall be great fearfulness and trembling upon earth:” [See verse 40] “and they” [The people alive on earth] “that see the wrath” [Fire, and hail, and flying swords from the clouds and the horrible star, see verses 40-41] “shall be afraid, and trembling shall come upon them.” See Habakkuk 3:16 and verse 43.

2 Esdras 15:38: “And then shall there come great storms” [Wrath, see Nahum 1:3 and verses 40-42] “from the south, and from the north, and another part from the west.”

2 Esdras 15:39: “And strong winds shall arise from the east, and shall open it;” [The cloud containing the star] “and the cloud which he” [The Most High] “raised up in wrath, and the star stirred” [Moved] “to cause fear toward the east and west wind,” [See verses 40-44] “shall be destroyed.” All wrath from the star shall be cast down on Babylon, see verse 44.

2 Esdras 15:40: “The great and mighty clouds shall be puffed up full of wrath, and the star,” [See verses 35, 39] “that they” [The clouds and the star] “may make all the earth afraid, and them that dwell therein; and they” [The clouds and the star] “shall pour out over every high and eminent place an horrible star,” See verses 35, 39, 44.

2 Esdras 15:41: “Fire, and hail, and flying swords, and many waters, that all fields may be full, and all rivers, with the abundance of great waters.”

2 Esdras 15:42: “And they” [The clouds and the star] “shall break down the cities and walls, mountains and hills, trees of the wood, and grass of the meadows, and their corn.” With fire and hail etc., see verse 41.

2 Esdras 15:43: “And they” [The clouds and the star] “shall go stedfastly unto Babylon,” [This is not the land/location of ancient Babylon, see Revelation 17:4-6] “and make her afraid.”

2 Esdras 15:44: “They” [The clouds and the star] “shall come to her,” [Babylon] “and besiege her,” [Babylon] “the star and all wrath” [The entire star with the wrath of the clouds] “shall they pour out upon her: then” [After the destruction of the star, see verse 39] “shall the dust and smoke go up unto the heaven,” [See Isaiah 34:8-10] “and all they” [The people alive on earth] “that be about her” [Babylon] “shall bewail her.” See Revelation 18:9-19.

2 Esdras 15:45: “And they” [The people alive on earth] “that remain under her” [Babylon] “shall do service unto them that have put her in fear.” See Daniel 7:18, 26-27.

Asia Destroy with Plagues/Reap What You Sow-Captivity

2 Esdras 15:46: “And thou, Asia,” [The people of Asia] “that art partaker of the hope” [See Psalms 49:11] “of Babylon, and art the glory of her person:” See Revelation 18:3.

2 Esdras 15:47: “Woe” [Destruction, wrath, and vengeance] “be unto thee,” [Asia] “thou wretch,” [See verses 49-51] “because thou hast made thyself like unto her;” [Babylon] “and hast decked thy daughters in whoredom, that they might please and glory in thy lovers, which have always desired to commit whoredom with thee.” See Revelation 17:2.

2 Esdras 15:48: “Thou” [The people of Asia] “hast followed her” [Babylon] “that is hated in all her works and inventions:” [See Revelation 14:8-11] “therefore saith God,”

2 Esdras 15:49: “I will send plagues” [See 2 Esdras 16:1, 12, 18, 22-34] “upon thee;” [Asia] “widowhood, poverty, famine, sword, and pestilence, to waste thy houses with destruction and death.”

2 Esdras 15:50: “And the glory of thy” [Asia’s] “Power” [Babylon] “shall be dried up as a flower,” [See verses 43-44] “the heat shall arise that is sent over thee.” See verses 35, 39-42.

2 Esdras 15:51: “Thou” [Asia] “shalt be weakened as a poor woman with stripes, and as one chastised with wounds, so that the mighty and lovers shall not be able to receive thee.”

2 Esdras 15:52: “Would I” [God] “with jealousy have so proceeded against thee,” [Asia] “saith the Lord,”

2 Esdras 15:53: “If thou” [The people of Asia] “hadst not always slain my chosen,” [The people of God, see 2 Easdras 16:70-73] “exalting the stroke of thine hands, and saying over their dead, when thou” [The people of Asia] “wast drunken,” See Message to reader: Asia.

2 Esdras 15:54: “Set forth the beauty of thy countenance?”

2 Esdras 15:55: “The reward of thy whoredom” [Following Babylon and killing the Most High’s chosen, see verses 48, 53] “shall be in thy bosom, therefore shalt thou receive recompence.”

2 Esdras 15:56: “Like as thou hast done unto my chosen,” [The people of God, see 2 Easdras 16:70-73] “saith the Lord, even so shall God do unto thee,” [The people of Asia] “and shall deliver thee into mischief.” See verses 22-23.

2 Esdras 16:14: “Behold, the plagues are sent, and shall not return again, until they come upon the earth.” See Isaiah 55:11.

The Servants of the Lord Forewarn

The Parable: The Whore and Virtuous Woman

Warning to God's People

2 Esdras 16:51: “And therefore” [Because of the above parable, see verses 49-50] “be ye” [The Israelites during the time period of Esdras] “not like thereunto,” [Do not envy righteousness] “nor to the works thereof.” Sin/wickedness!

2 Esdras 16:52: “For yet a little, and iniquity shall be taken away out of the earth,” [See 2 Esdras 15:6-8] “and righteousness shall reign among you.” Those Israelites that obeyed the teachings of Esdras, see 2 Esdras 15:1-2, 2 Peter 3:13 and Revelation 21:1, 27.

2 Esdras 16:53: “Let not the sinner" [The Israelites who sinned] "say that he hath not sinned:” [See Mark 2:17] “for God shall burn coals of fire upon his head,” [See 2 Esdras 15:35, 40-44] “which saith before the Lord God and his glory,” [Christ and the angels, see Matthew 25:31] “I have not sinned.”

The Glory of the Most High

2 Esdras 16:54: “Behold, the Lord knoweth all the works of men, their imaginations, their thoughts, and their hearts:”

2 Esdras 16:55: “Which spake but the word, Let the earth be made; and it was made: Let the heaven be made; and it was created.” See Genesis 1:1-2, 2 Esdras 6:38 and Psalms 33:6-9.

2 Esdras 16:56: “In his word were the stars made, and he” [The Most High] “knoweth the number of them.” See 2 Esdras 6:40, 45-46 and Psalms 148:3-5.

2 Esdras 16:57: “He” [The Most High] “searcheth the deep, and the treasures thereof; he hath measured the sea, and what it containeth.”

2 Esdras 16:58: “He” [The Most High] “hath shut the sea in the midst of the waters,” [See 2 Esdras 6:42-43 and Isaiah 40:12] “and with his word hath he hanged the earth upon the waters.” See 2 Esdras 6:41.

2 Esdras 16:59: “He spreadeth out the heavens like a vault;” [See Psalms 104:1-2] “upon the waters hath he founded it.” See Genesis 1:1-2.

2 Esdras 16:60: “In the desert hath he” [The Most High] “made springs of water, and pools upon the tops of the mountains, that the floods might pour down from the high rocks to water the earth.” See Genesis 2:10.

2 Esdras 16:61: “He” [The Most High] “made man, and put his heart in the midst of the body, and gave him breath, life, and understanding.” See Genesis 2:7 and 2 Esdras 3:5.

2 Esdras 16:62: “Yea and the Spirit of Almighty God, which made all things, and searcheth out all hidden things in the secrets of the earth,”

The Wicked Cannot Hide Their Sins From God, Israel Commanded to Repent

2 Esdras 16:63: “Surely he” [The Most High] “knoweth your” [The Israelites’] “inventions, and what ye” [Those in the time period of Esdras] “think in your hearts,” [Mind, see Jeremiah 17:9-10] “even them” [The Isaelites] “that sin, and would hide their sin.” By not repenting, see John 8:31-47.

2 Esdras 16:64: “Therefore hath the Lord exactly searched out all your” [The Israelites who refuse to hear God’s word/repent] “works, and he” [The Most High] “will put you all to shame.” See 2 Esdras 15:26.

2 Esdras 16:65: “And when your sins” [See 1 John 3:4] “are brought forth, ye shall be ashamed before men, and your own sins shall be your accusers in that day.”

2 Esdras 16:66: “What will ye” [The Israelites who refuse to hear God’s word/repent] “do? or how will ye hide your sins before God and his angels?” See 2 Esdras 15:6-9 and Wisdom of Solomon 4:16-20.

2 Esdras 16:67: “Behold, God himself is the judge, fear him:” [See Matthew 10:28] “leave off from your sins, and forget your iniquities, to meddle no more with them for ever: so shall God lead you forth, and deliver you from all trouble.” See Ezekiel 18:27-28.

2 Esdras 16:68: “For, behold,” [Watch] “the burning wrath of a great multitude” [See 1 Maccabees 1:1-6] “is kindled over you,” [Israel] “and they shall take away certain of you, and feed you, being idle, with things offered unto idols.” See 1 Maccabees 1:41-50, 2 Maccabees 5:21-27 and 2 Maccabees 6:1-11.

2 Esdras 16:69: “And they that consent unto them shall be had in derision and in reproach, and trodden under foot.” See 1 Maccabees 2:23-29 and 1 Maccabees 3:1-8.

2 Esdras 16:70: “For there shall be in every place, and in the next cities, a great insurrection upon those that fear the Lord.”

2 Esdras 16:71: “They shall be like mad men, sparing none, but still spoiling and destroying those that fear the Lord.” See 1 Maccabees 2:31-38 and 2 Maccabees 7:1-42.

2 Esdras 16:72: “For they shall waste and take away their goods, and cast them out of their houses.” See 1 Maccabees 2:39, 42-44.

2 Esdras 16:73: “Then shall they be known, who are my chosen; and they shall be tried as the gold in the fire.”

2 Esdras 16:74: “Hear, O ye my beloved,” [The righteous] “saith the Lord: behold, the days of trouble are at hand,” [See verses 68-73] “but I” [The Most High] “will deliver you from the same.” See 1 Maccabees 4:9-15, 23-25, 41-43, 47-59.

2 Esdras 16:75: “Be ye not afraid neither doubt; for God is your guide,” See 2 Maccabees 6:12-16.

2 Esdras 16:76: “And the guide of them” [The righteous – examples include Mattathias, his sons, the seven brothers and their mother etc.] “who keep my commandments and precepts, saith the Lord God:” [Before Christ, Israel was under the covenant of Moses] “let not your” [The Israelites during the time period of Esdras] “sins weigh you down, and let not your” [The Israelites during the time period of Esdras] “iniquities lift up themselves.” See Ezekiel 18:27-28.

2 Esdras 16:77: “Woe” [Destruction] “be unto them” [The wicked – examples the Israelites who consented to the king’s commandment] “that are bound with their sins,” [Those Israelites during the time period of Esdras who refuse to repent and obey God] “and covered with their iniquities like as a field is covered over with bushes, and the path thereof covered with thorns, that no man may travel through!”

2 Esdras 16:78: “It is left undressed, and is cast into the fire to be consumed therewith.” See 2 Esdras 15:22-26.
