In Matthew 24, Mark 13 and
Luke 21 Christ explains to Peter, James, John
and Andrew (See Mark 13:3), the signs/prophesies
that will occur in the earth before his second coming.
Additionally, he instructs them of the perils that will befall
them during their ministries. He explains that the same
generation, in that time period, will be brought back in the
last kingdom before his return. Matthew’s writings focus on the
end times. However, Mark and Luke’s writings includes the time
periods of the disciple’s ministry and the last kingdom.
The prophecies and signs in Matthew 24,
Mark 13 and Luke 21 are also written
in the book of Revelation.
The Temple
Matthew 24:1: “And Jesus went out, and
departed from the temple:” [The temple located in Jerusalem
that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.] “and his” [Christ]
“disciples came to him” [Christ] “for to shew him the buildings
of the temple.” The physical appearance of the temple.
Matthew 24:2: “And Jesus said unto them,” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew (A part of the 144,000/Saints of the Most
High/Servants of God, see Revelation 1:1)] “See ye not all these things?” [Everything pertaining
to the temple,
including the surrounding buildings] “verily I”
[Christ] “say unto you,” [Peter, James, John and
Andrew] “There shall not be left here one stone upon another,
that shall not be thrown down.” The great earthquake, see
verse 29, Mark 13:25 and
Luke 21:25-26.
Christ forewarns his disciples, and explains to them in Matthew 24:4-51, Mark 13:5-37 and Luke 21:8-38, the signs/prophesies of his second coming, which signifies the end of this world, and the beginning of the world to follow. The aforementioned signs/prophesies are found throughout the Bible, and many of them are included in the breakdown of the book of Revelation. Christ clarifies these signs/prophesies to Peter, James, John and Andrew, by answering their question (See Matthew 24:3, Mark 13:3-4 and Luke 21:7).
Matthew 24:3: “And as he” [Christ] “sat upon
the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him” [Christ]
“privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be?"
[The great
earthquake, see verse 2: “…There shall not
be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown
down.”] "and
what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the
world?” Answered in verses 4-51.
Matthew 24:4: “And Jesus answered and said unto
them,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “Take heed that no man deceive you.” See
Revelation 13:16-17. During the time period of the Beast there
shall be a resurrection of the just and unjust, see
Message to reader: The Book of Life.
Time Period: Prior to the First Seal
Matthew 24:5: “For many shall come in my
name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” This shall
take place before the First Seal found in Revelation 6:1-2.
Matthew 24:6: “And ye” [Peter, James,
John and Andrew (A part of
the 144,000/Saints of the Most High/Servants of God, see
Revelation 1:1)] “shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see
that ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “be not troubled: for all these
things” [False Christ, wars and rumors of wars] “must come to
pass, but the end is not yet.”
Matthew 24:7: “For nation shall rise against
nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines,
and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”
Matthew 24:8: “All these” [Wars and rumours of
wars, nations rising against nations, etc.] “are the beginning
of sorrows.” This is the beginning of sorrows for those who
sinned against the Most High, see 2 Esdras 8:55
to 2 Esdras 9:6.
Time Period: The Third Seal, of Seven (Rev. Chapters 6 and 8)
Matthew 24:9: “Then” [After the beginning of sorrows and during the kingdom of the Beast, see Daniel 7:25] “shall they” [The Beast, false prophet and his followers, see Revelation 13:7-8] “deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you:” [Peter, James, John and Andrew/144,000, see Revelation 6:9-11] “and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.” See Revelation 12:11 and Revelation 14:5-6.
Time Period: The Second Seal, of Seven (Rev. Chapters 6 and 8)
Matthew 24:10: “And then” [During the time period of the Beast, see
Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13:5-6]
“shall many be offended,” [Of
the truth, see Revelation 11:3] “and shall betray one another,
and shall hate one another.” See Revelation 13:7-8.
Matthew 24:11: “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall
deceive many.” See Revelation 13:11-14 and
Revelation 17:12-13.
Matthew 24:12: “And because iniquity shall abound,” [The people
of the earth shall follow/worship the Beast, see Revelation
13:5-8] “the love of many” [Those dwelling on the earth]
“shall
wax cold.” See verse 10.
Matthew 24:13: “But he” [The 144,000 and the Elect]
“that shall
endure unto the end,” [The end of the Beast’s kingdom/tribulation
of those days] “the same
shall be saved.” Delivered by Christ into his kingdom, and New
Jerusalem (the Kingdom of Heaven), see verses 29-31 and Revelation 20:4-5.
Matthew 24:14: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached
in all the world” [By the 144,000, see Revelation 12:11]
“for a
witness unto all nations;” [See Mark 13:9 and Revelation 14:6]
“and then shall
the end come.” See verses 29-31, Mark 13:24-27,
Luke 21:25-28 and Revelation 16:1-21.
The Great Tribulation
Matthew 24:15: “When ye” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew
raised up again in the last day] “therefore shall see the
abomination of desolation,” [See Revelation 13:15] “spoken of by
Daniel the prophet,” [See Daniel 12:10-11]
“stand in the holy
place,” [Jerusalem] “(whoso readeth, let him understand)” The words written in
verses 15-28 are “dark sayings,” see
Psalms 49:4. These “dark
sayings” are prophesies concerning the great tribulation, see
Daniel 12:1.
Matthew 24:16: “Then let them” [The followers of Christ living
during the time period of the Beast] “which be in Judaea flee
into the mountains:” See Revelation 12:13-14.
Matthew 24:17: “Let him which is on the housetop not come down
to take any thing out of his house:”
Matthew 24:18: “Neither let him which is in the field return
back to take his clothes.”
Matthew 24:19: “And woe unto them that are with child, and to
them that give suck in those days!”
Matthew 24:20: “But pray ye that your flight be not in the
winter, neither on the sabbath day:”
Matthew 24:21: “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was
not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever
shall be.” See Daniel 7:23-25 and Daniel 12:1-3.
Matthew 24:22: “And except those days should be shortened,” [The
days of the great tribulation, see Message to reader: Time and
Times and Dividing of Times (3 ½ Years)] “there should no flesh
be saved: but for the elect's sake” [Those who are not of the
144,000, who refuse worship the Beast] “those days” [The kingdom
of the Beast/tribulation of those days] “shall be shortened.”
False Christs and False Prophets
Matthew 24:23: “Then" [During
the Kingdom of the Beast/tribulation of those days]
"if any man shall say unto you,” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew] “Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.”
Matthew 24:24: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false
prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that,
if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” See
Revelation 13:11-14.
Matthew 24:25: “Behold, I have told you before.”
See Mark 13:23.
Matthew 24:26: “Wherefore if they shall say unto you,"
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] "Behold, he" [Christ]
"is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he" [Christ] "is in the secret
chambers; believe it not.”
Matthew 24:27: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and
shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son
of man be.” See 2 Esdras 15:34-35.
Matthew 24:28: “For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the
eagles be gathered together.” See Revelation 19:17-18.

is the beginning of The Day of the Lord.
On that day the Lord shall avenge his saints, see 2
Esdras 15:8-9. All nations/people will see the fierce
anger of the Lord, and the Lord shall destroy the sinners out of
the earth, see Isaiah 13:9. The following events
will take place on that great and terrible day!

Matthew 24:31: “And he” [Christ] “shall send his angels with a
great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his
elect” [The followers of Christ who live on the earth during the
reign of the Beast, and who refuse to worship the Beast and receive his
mark or the number.] “from the four winds, from one end of
heaven to the other.” See
Ezekiel 34:11-16 and 1 Thessalonians
4:16-17.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
Matthew 24:32: “Now learn a parable” [See
Psalms 49:4] “of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender,
and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:”
Matthew 24:33: “So likewise” [Just as summer follow spring, see
verse 32] “ye,” [The disciples] “when ye shall see all these
things,” [The prophesies spoken by Christ, see verses 4-28]
“know that it” [The signs of the second coming of Christ, see
verse 3] “is near, even at the doors.”
Matthew 24:34: “Verily” [Truthfully]
“I” [Christ] “say unto
you,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “This generation” [The same
generation/people that lived during the time of Christ and his
disciples] “shall not pass,” [Depart] “till all these things be
fulfilled.” The same generation/people will be brought back,
before the second coming of Christ, see John 6:39-40 and
Daniel
12:2.
Matthew 24:35: “Heaven and earth shall pass away,” [See
Isaiah 65:17, 2 Peters
3:10-13 and
Revelation 21:1] “but my words shall not pass away.” See
Isaiah 40:8 and 1
Peter 1:25.
No One Knows the Day or Hour
Matthew 24:36: “But of that day” [The exact day
(The Day of the Lord/The second
coming of Christ)] “and hour” [The exact hour] “knoweth no man,
no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father” [The Most High]
“only.” Although Peter, James, John and Andrew will
know the season (See verses 32-33,
Mark 13:28-29 and 1 Thessalonians 5:1:-10), they will not know the exact
day and hour of the second coming of Christ.
Matthew 24:37: “But as the days of Noah were,”
[See Genesis
chapters 6 and 7] “so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Explained
in verses 38-41.
Matthew 24:38: “For as in the days that were before the flood”
[See Hebrews 11:7 and 2 Peter 2:5]
“they were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that
Noe entered into the ark,”
Matthew 24:39: “And knew not until the flood came, and took them
all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” In the
days leading up to Christ’s second coming, the wicked shall
continue to live. They will not understand the teachings of the
144,000, and shall be destroyed, see Daniel
12:10.
Matthew 24:40: “Then” [When Christ returns]
“shall two be in the
field; the one shall be taken,” [See verse 31]
“and the other
left.” See verse 30.
Matthew 24:41: “Two women shall be grinding” [or working]
“at
the mill; the one shall be taken,” [See verse 31]
“and the other
left.” See verse 30.
Remember, when Christ spoke to his disciples in Matthew 24:1-51, they did not have the Holy Ghost, see Acts 1:1-8 and John 14:26. The Holy Ghost was the promise sent from God, which taught and brought understanding of all things to the disciples. They did not receive the Holy Ghost until the day of Pentecost; see Acts 2:1-5.
Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore:”
[Watch/understand and obey Christ, as Noah obeyed the Most High]
“for ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “know not what hour your Lord doth
come.” See Revelation 19:11-15.
Matthew 24:43: “But know this, that if the goodman of the house
had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have
watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.”
Matthew 24:44: “Therefore be ye” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew/leaders of the
church] “also ready:” [Continue to follow the words/teachings of
Christ, see verses 45-47] “for in such an hour as ye think not
the Son of man cometh.”
After answering the disciples’ questions (see Matthew 24:3), Christ reveals what will happen to that generation/the people who lived during the time period of Christ and the disciples. Christ informs his faithful and wise servants of their rewards, warns them of wickedness in the church (see Matthew 18:7-14, examples of Matthew 18:7-14 are found in Romans 16:17-18, 1 Corinthians 5:1-9, 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 and Titus 3:8-11), and the punishments that await the disobedient.
Matthew 24:45: “Who then is a faithful and wise servant,” [The
servant that endures, by obeying and doing the commandments of
Christ, unto the end of their life, see Matthew 10:22 and
Galatians 6:9] “whom his lord hath made ruler over his
household,” [See Daniel 7:14] “to give them meat in due season?”
Matthew 24:46: “Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he
cometh shall find so doing.” Following the teachings of Christ,
see verse 44.
Matthew 24:47: “Verily” [Truthfully]
“I” [Christ] “say unto
you,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “That he” [Christ] “shall make
him” [That
blessed servant, see verse 46, a part of the 144,000/Servants of
God] “ruler over all his goods.”
Matthew 24:48: “But and if that evil servant” [Those in the
church that departed from Christ and his teachings] “shall say
in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;”
Matthew 24:49: “And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and
to eat and drink with the drunken;” Depart from Christ, see
2
Thessalonians 2:3.
Matthew 24:50: “The lord of that servant shall come in a day
when he looketh not for him,” [See Revelation 2:16]
“and in an
hour that he is not aware of,”
Matthew 24:51: “And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him”
[That evil servant, see verse 48] “his portion with the
hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” See
Luke 21:34-36,
2
Thessalonians 2:10-12 and Revelation 20:14-15.
The Temple
Mark 13:1: “And as he” [Christ]
“went out of the temple,” [The temple located in Jerusalem
that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D.] “one of his disciples
saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what
buildings are here!” In Jerusalem, surrounding the temple.
Mark 13:2: “And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these
great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another,
that shall not be thrown down.” The great earthquake, see
verse 25, Matthew 24:29 and
Luke 21:25-26.
Mark 13:3: “And as he” [Christ] “sat upon the mount of Olives
over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew
asked him” [Christ] “privately,”
Christ forewarns his disciples, and explains to them in Matthew 24:4-51, Mark 13:5-37 and Luke 21:8-38, the signs/prophesies of his second coming, which signifies the end of this world, and the beginning of the world to follow. The aforementioned signs/prophesies are found throughout the Bible, and many of them are included in our breakdown of the book of Revelation. Christ clarifies these signs/prophesies to Peter, James, John and Andrew, by answering their question (See Matthew 24:3, Mark 13:3-4 and Luke 21:7).
Mark 13:4: “Tell us,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“when
shall these things be?” [The great earthquake, see
verse 2: “…Seest thou these great buildings? there
shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be
thrown down.”] “and what shall be the
sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?” Answered in
verses 5-37.
Time Period: Prior to the First Seal
Mark 13:5: “And Jesus answering them” [Peter, James, John and
Andrew, see verse 3] “began to say, Take heed"
[Know this/understand/be warned] "lest any man
deceive you:”
Mark 13:6: “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ;
and shall deceive many.” This shall take place before the First
Seal found in Revelation 6:1-2.
Mark 13:7: “And when ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew whom
(A part of
the 144,000/Saints of the Most High/Servants of God, see
Revelation 1:1)] “shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye”
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] “not troubled: for such things”
[False Christ, wars and rumors of wars] “must needs be; but the
end shall not be yet.”
Mark 13:8: “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these” [Wars and rumours of wars, nations rising against nations, etc.] “are the beginnings of sorrows.” This is the beginning of sorrows for those who sinned against the Most High, see 2 Esdras 8:55 to 2 Esdras 9:6.
Time periods of the Disciple’s Ministry and the Last Kingdom before the return of Christ
Mark 13:9: “But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver
you” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “up to councils; and in the
synagogues ye shall be beaten:” [This prophecy was fulfilled
back then, see
Acts 5:27-42]
“and ye” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew] “shall be brought before rulers and
kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.” Peter,
James, John, and Andrew will be raised up again in the last
kingdom to testify before rulers and kings, during the kingdom
of the Beast, see
Matthew 24:14.
The angel of Christ re-affirms this to John, see
Revelation 10:9-11.
Mark 13:10: “And the gospel must first be published among all
nations.” This prophecy was fulfilled back then (see
Romans
10:15-18), and will occur again in the last kingdom (The
kingdom of the Beast, see
Revelation 10:11 and Revelation 14:6).
Mark 13:11: “But when they shall lead you,” [Peter, James, John
and Andrew] “and deliver you up,” [See verses 9-10]
“take no
thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye
premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour,
that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.”
Mark 13:12: “Now the brother shall betray the brother to death,
and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their
parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.” The betrayal
spoken of in verse 12 will occur in the last kingdom, see
Revelation 13:15.
Mark 13:13: “And ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“shall be
hated of all men for my name's sake:” [See Revelation 13:7-8]
“but he” [The 144,000 and the Elect] “that shall endure unto the
end,” [the 144,000 must endure unto death (See
Revelation 14:1-5), and the Elect must endure unto the end of the Beast’s kingdom/tribulation of those days]
“the same shall be saved.” Delivered by Christ into his kingdom,
and New Jerusalem (the Kingdom of Heaven), see Matthew 24:29-31
and Revelation 20:4-5.
The Great Tribulation
Mark 13:14: “But when ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew
raised up again in the last day] “shall see the abomination of
desolation,” [See Revelation 13:15] “spoken of by Daniel the
prophet,” [See Daniel 12:10-11] “standing where it ought not,”
[Jerusalem] “(let him that readeth understand,)” [The words
written in verses 14-20 are “dark sayings,” see
Psalms 49:4.
These “dark sayings” are prophesies concerning the great
tribulation, see Daniel 12:1.] “then let them” [The followers of
Christ living during the time period of the Beast] “that be in
Judaea flee to the mountains:” See Revelation 12:13-14.
Mark 13:15: “And let him that is on the housetop not go down
into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of
his house:”
Mark 13:16: “And let him that is in the field not turn back
again for to take up his garment.”
Mark 13:17: “But woe to them that are with child, and to them
that give suck in those days!”
Mark 13:18: “And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.”
Mark 13:19: “For in those days shall be affliction, such as was
not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto
this time, neither shall be.” See Daniel 12:1-3.
Mark 13:20: “And except that the Lord had shortened those days,”
[The days of the great tribulation, see Message to reader: Time
and Times and Dividing of Times (3 ½ Years)] “no flesh should be
saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen,” [Those
who are not of the 144,000, who refuse worship the Beast] “he”
[The Most High] “hath shortened the days.” The kingdom of the
Beast/tribulation of those days.
False Christs and False Prophets
Mark 13:21: “And then” [During the
Kingdom of the Beast/tribulation of those days]
“if any man shall say to
you,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew raised up again in the
last day] “Lo, here is Christ; or,
lo, he is there; believe him not:”
Mark 13:22: “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise,
and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were
possible, even the elect.” See Revelation 13:11-14.
Mark 13:23: “But take ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“heed:" [Know this/understand/be warned] "behold, I"
[Christ]
"have foretold you all things.” The prophesy concerning
the end times/tribulation was told to them, see Matthew
24:4-51, Mark 13:5-37 and Luke
21:8-36.
The Coming of the Son of Man/The Day of the Lord
Mark 13:24: “But in those days, after that tribulation,” [See
verses 14-22 and Matthew 24:15-26] “the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not
give her light,”

that are in heaven shall be shaken.” See
Revelation 6:12-17 and
Revelation 16:17-21.
Mark 13:26: “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in
the clouds with great power and glory.” See

“send his angels, and
shall gather together his elect” [The followers of Christ who
live on the earth during the reign of the Beast, and who refuse to
worship the Beast and receive his mark or the number.] “from the four
winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost
part of heaven.” See
Ezekiel 34:11-16 and 1 Thessalonians
4:16-17.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
Mark 13:28: “Now learn a parable” [See
Psalms 49:4] “of the
fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth
leaves, ye" [Peter, James, John and Andrew] "know that summer is near:”
Mark 13:29: “So ye in like manner,” [Just as summer follow
spring, see verse 28] “when ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“shall see these things come to pass,” [The prophesies spoken by
Christ, see verses 5-23] “know that it” [The signs of the second
coming of Christ, see verse 4] “is nigh, even at the doors.”
Mark 13:30: “Verily” [Truthfully] “I” [Christ]
“say unto you,”
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] “that this generation” [The same
generation/people that lived during the time of Christ and his
disciples] “shall not pass,” [Depart] “till all these things be
done.” The same generation/people will be brought back, before
the second coming of Christ, see John 6:39-40 and
Daniel 12:2.
Mark 13:31: “Heaven and earth shall pass away:” [See
Isaiah 65:17, 2 Peters 3:10-13 and Revelation 21:1]
“but my words
shall not pass away.” See Isaiah 40:8 and
1 Peter 1:25.
No One Knows the Day or Hour
Mark 13:32: “But of that day” [The
exact day (The Day of the Lord/The second coming of Christ)] “and that hour”
[The exact hour] “knoweth no man, no, not the angels which
are in heaven, neither the Son," [Christ] "but the Father.”
Mark 13:33: “Take ye heed," [Know
this/understand/be warned] "watch and pray:
for ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “know not when
the time is.” Although Peter, James, John and Andrew will
know the season (See verses 28-29, Matthew 24:32-33 and
1 Thessalonians 5:1-10), they will not know the exact
day and hour of the second coming of Christ.
Mark 13:34: “For the Son of Man is as a man
taking a far journey," [See Acts 1:9 and
Revelation 5:1-10] "who left his house, and gave authority to
his servants," [See Matthew 16:16-19]
"and to every man his work," [See 1 Corinthians
3:9-15] "and commanded the
porter" [Caretakers/Leaders/Teachers] "to watch.”
See Matthew 24:42-51 and Luke 21:34-36.
Mark 13:35: “Watch ye therefore:"
[Watch/understand and obey Christ] "for ye”
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] “know not when the master of
the house cometh," [Christ] "at even, or at midnight, or at the
cockcrowing, or in the morning:" See verse 32
and Matthew 24:36.
Mark 13:36: “Lest coming suddenly"
[See 1 Thessalonians 5:2] "he"
[Christ] "find
you sleeping."
Mark 13:37: “And what I” [Christ]
“say unto you” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “I”
[Christ] “say unto all, Watch.” See Revelation
3:2-3.
The Temple
Luke 21:5: “And as some spake of the temple,"
[The temple located in Jerusalem that was destroyed by the
Romans] "how it was
adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he” [Christ] “said,"
Luke 21:6: “As for these things"
[Everything pertaining to the temple, including the surrounding
buildings] "which ye” [Peter, James, John
and Andrew, see Mark 13:3] “behold, the days will come, in the
which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall
not be thrown down.” The great earthquake, see
verses 25-26, Matthew 24:29 and Mark 13:25.
Luke 21:7: “And they” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“asked
him,” [Christ] “saying, Master, but when shall these things be?"
[The great earthquake, see verse 6:
“…behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be
left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”]
"and what sign will there be when these things shall come to
pass?” Answered in verses 8-38.
Time Period: Prior to the First Seal
Luke 21:8: “And he” [Christ] “said, Take heed that ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ;" [This shall take place before the First Seal found in Revelation 6:1-2] "and" [Plus, as well as, in addition to] "the time draweth near:" [Meaning false teachers/leaders shall also arise and deceive many in their life time, see 1 John 2:18-19] "go ye not therefore after them.”
Luke 21:9: ““But when ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew (A part of the 144,000/Saints of the Most High/Servants of God, see Revelation 1:1)] “shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things” [False Christ/teachers/leaders, wars and commotions] “must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.”
Luke 21:10: “Then said he” [Christ]
“unto them,” [Peter,
James, John and Andrew] “Nation shall rise against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom:”
Luke 21:11: “And great earthquakes shall be in divers places,
and famines, and pestilences;" [This is the beginning of sorrows for those who
sinned against the Most High, see 2 Esdras 8:55
to 2 Esdras 9:6] "and fearful sights and great signs
shall there be from heaven.”
As explained in Message to reader: Matthew, Mark and Luke, the writings contained in the book of Luke focus on the time period of Christ and his disciples, and the kingdom of the Beast (the last kingdom). Luke 21:11 spans the period of the seven kings (See Revelation 6:1-2), to the Sixth Plague of the wrath of God upon the earth, see Revelation 16:1-16. The Seventh Plague of the wrath of God upon the earth (See Revelation 16:17-21), is continued in Luke 21:25-26.
Time Period of the Disciple’s Ministry
Luke 21:12: “But before all these,” [Before
the raise of the Seven Kings, and the Seven Last Plagues of God]
“they shall lay their
hands on you,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “and persecute
you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons,”
[See
Acts 5:27-42] “being brought before kings and rulers for my name's
sake.”
Luke 21:13: “And it shall turn to you for a testimony.”
Luke 21:14: “Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate
before what ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew] “shall answer:”
Luke 21:15: “For I” [Christ] “will give you” [Peter, James, John
and Andrew] “a mouth and wisdom," [See Acts
2:1-47] "which all your adversaries
shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.”
Luke 21:16: “And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and
brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you"
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] "shall they
cause to be put to death."
Luke 21:17: “And ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“shall be
hated of all men for my name's sake.”
Luke 21:18: “But there shall not an hair of your head perish.”
Luke 21:19: “In your patience possess ye your souls.”
The Destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD
Luke 21:20: “And when ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“shall see Jerusalem" [A city of
Judaea] "compassed with armies, then know that the
desolation thereof is nigh.” In 70 A.D. the Romans
destroyed the city of Jerusalem, and the temple.
Luke 21:21: “Then" [At the time
when Jerusalem is compassed with armies] "let them" [The followers of Christ]
"which are in Judaea" [See
1 Thessalonians 2:14] "flee to the
mountains;" [The other nations/areas] "and let them which are in the midst"
[Middle] "of it" [Judaea] "depart out;
and let not them" [The followers of Christ] "that are in the countries"
[Nations/regions, outside of Judaea] "enter thereinto.”
Judaea.
Luke 21:22: “For these be the days of vengeance, that all things
which are written may be fulfilled.” David wrote concerning this
time period; those Israelites, who rejected Christ would be
punished, see Psalm 69:22-28. Additionally, the
curses found throughout the Old Testament (See
Deuteronomy 28:15-68), would be upon the seed of that
generation (The Israelites).
Luke 21:23: “But woe" [Destruction and
persecution] "unto them that are with child, and to them
that give suck, in those days!" [When Jerusalem is
compassed with armies, and destroyed] "for there shall be great distress
in the land," [Jerusalem] "and wrath upon this people.” The Israelites
who rejected Christ!
Luke 21:24: “And they" [The Israelites
who rejected Christ] "shall fall by the edge of the sword, and
shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall
be trodden down of the Gentiles," [The nations] "until the times of the Gentiles
be fulfilled.” See Revelation 19:11-21.
The Seventh Plague/The Coming of the Son of Man
Luke 21:25: “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the
moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations,
with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;”
Luke 21:26: “Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking
after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers
of heaven shall be shaken.” See
Revelation 6:12-17 and
Revelation 16:17-21.
Luke 21:27: “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a
cloud with power and great glory.” See Revelation 1:7.
Luke 21:28: “And when these things"
[Prophesies spoken of by Christ] "begin to come to pass, then
look up, and lift up your heads; for your" [Peter, James,
John and Andrew, including the Elect] "redemption draweth
nigh.”
The Parable of the Fig Tree
Luke 21:29: “And he” [Christ] “spake to them”
[Peter, James,
John and Andrew] “a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the
trees;”
Luke 21:30: “When they now shoot forth, ye"
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] "see and know of your
own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.”
Luke 21:31: “So likewise” [Just as summer follow spring, see
verse 30] “ye,” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“when ye see
these things” [The prophesies spoken by Christ, see verses
8-11, 24-28]
“come to pass, know ye” [Peter, James, John and Andrew]
“that
the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.”
Luke 21:32: “Verily” [Truthfully] “I” [Christ]
“say unto you,”
[Peter, James, John and Andrew] “This generation” [The same
generation/people that lived during the time of Christ and his
disciples] “shall not pass away,” [Depart] “till all be
fulfilled.” That generation will be brought back in the
last kingdom.
Luke 21:33: “Heaven and earth shall pass away:” [See
Isaiah 65:17, 2 Peters 3:10-13 and
Revelation 21:1] “but my words shall not pass away.” See
Isaiah
40:8 and 1 Peter 1:25.
Watch and Pray
Luke 21:34: “And take heed" [Know
this/understand/be warned] "to yourselves, lest at any time
your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and
cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
See Matthew 6:31-33.
Luke 21:35: “For as a snare" [Trap]
"shall it" [The day or the Lord, see verses 25-27]
"come on all them that dwell
on the face of the whole earth.” The followers of the
Beast, see Revelation 13:8.
Luke 21:36: “Watch ye therefore,” [Watch/understand and obey
Christ] “and pray always, that ye” [Peter, James, John and
Andrew] “may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that
shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
Luke 21:37: “And in the day time he” [Christ]
“was teaching in
the temple; and at night he” [Christ] “went out, and abode in
the mount that is called the mount of Olives.”
Luke 21:38: “And all the people came early in the morning to him
in the temple, for to hear him.”
